On 26 July 2024, the PhD thesis “Application of AI Algorithms for Satellite On-Board Image Processing” was defended by Dr. Giorgia Guerrisi, addressing the challenge of processing massive data from Earth Observation satellites. The work focused on optimized AI models for change detection and image compression, including an AI-based compression algorithm successfully deployed onboard the Φsat-2 mission to reduce data volume sent to Earth.
